From the March 17, 1870 edition of the Cartersville Express newspaper, comes the following account regarding the growth of Cartersville. “We are pleased to see that Main Street is being extended west passing between the Pierce and Dobbs dwellings, and to be laid out as far as Colonel Young’s new residence, about one mile from the depot. Work is now being done clearing off our new cemetery. It is a beautiful situation, and when enclosed and laid off in lots will present an improved appearance. We are gradually growing and will soon have a respectable size village.”
