female in glassesThe community is invited to attend the next Ascension Coffee House on November 9th, which takes place in the parish hall at Church of Ascension, Cartersville. This local listening room for original music gives songwriters an opportunity to share their creative work with an appreciative audience. Montie Esworthy will be the featured songwriter this month.

A Georgia native, Esworthy’s musical training began at the young age of two when her mother, Dianne (Nelson) Horsley, began teaching her voice and piano. Esworthy attended Shorter College as a Vocal Performance Major and she has performed at various venues in Rome, Atlanta, and Philadelphia. Her musical style is inspired by such musical greats as Ann Wilson, Leonard Cohen, AniDefranco, Joan Armatrading, and Van Morrison.

Rick McKee will continue to serve as host and offer his original songs at the coffee house. McKee is a singer/songwriter, composer, music educator, and multi-instrumentalist from Cartersville. He has released two albums on the Cosmic Possum label.

Admission is free to the community, but all voluntary tips and donations collected will benefit the rector’s discretionary fund at Church of the Ascension. Food contributions are appreciated for the Backpack Buddy Program in our local schools. Needed items include: Ramen noodles, boxes of instant oatmeal, boxes of fruit snacks, boxes of granola bars, fruit cup 4-packs, Easy Mac cups, canned soup, cans of ravioli, 6-packs of applesauce, and 6-packs of raisins.

Please join us from 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Friday, November 9th, in the parish hall at The Episcopal Church of The Ascension, 205 West Cherokee Avenue, Cartersville.
