The South’s Largest Western Themed Event Returns to Booth Museum

As the largest Western themed event in the South, thousands of participants are expected to visit the 17th Annual Southeastern Cowboy Festival & Symposium, October 24-27 at Booth Western Art Museum. The four-day event is packed with events such as gunfight re-enactments, Native American dancing including Cody Boettner 2019 World Champion Hoop Dancer, concert by Featured Entertainers Sons of the Pioneers with Roy “Dusty” Rogers Jr children’s activities include photo opportunities with Woody and Jessie from “Toy Story”, a puppet factory, a petting zoo and on Sunday we begin the day withCowboy Church, and so much more!
The Festival & Symposium begins Thursday and Friday, October 24 & 25 at 9:00 am with Passport to the West. Exclusively for students, this school program is designed to educate children (grades 2-12) with riveting performances of “From East to West” by Native American Jim Sawgrass. Demonstrations of pottery making, chuck wagon cooking, and life at a trading post will fascinate students. Passport to the West is presented jointly with the Bartow History Museum and is sold out for both dates, October 24 and October 25.
Throughout the day on Friday, October 25, the 17th Annual Western Art History Symposium will be held in Bergman Theatre from 10:30 am – 4:00 pm with four sessions, each lasting 60 minutes with time for questions and answers. The Western Art History Symposium is free for members and included with general admission for not-yet members. At 10:30 am, Billy Schenck – “Pop Goes the Western”, 11:30 am TBA, 2:00 pm,Dr. Andrew Patrick Nelson – “Warhol’s Western Movies and at 3:00 pm James Warhola – “Remembering Visits at Uncle Andy’s”.
The Cowboy Festival kicks off at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 26 on the Museum’s Festival Grounds with tons of entertainment, children’s activities, High School Art Club Chalk Art Competition and a Western marketplace. Throughout the day attendees will also be entertained by on the Wild West Festival Stage. Performances include scenes from the movie “Tombstone” & Gunfight at O.K. Corral Reenactments, Jim Sawgrass on Native American Culture, trick and fancy roping with cowboy Bruce Brannen, plus traditional Native American dancing, and “The Art of the Bullwhip” demonstration with Cowboy Potshot Parker.
The final day of the Festival & Symposium will begin with Cowboy Church at 11:00 am on Sunday, October 27 led by Jim Dunham, Bruce and VernelleBrannen, The Sunday schedule for the Western Stage will feature Singer/Songwriters Catherine Thompson andPhil Helton as theyperform two shows, scenes fro visit the 17th Annual Southeastern Cowboy Festival & Symposium, October 24-27 at Booth Western Art Museum. m the movie TombstoneincludingGunfight at O.K. Corral, Traditional Native American Dancing and Trick& Fancy Roping by Bruce Brannen. Children’s activities will take place at Cowpoke Corner, they will enjoy a demonstration of giant bubbles from Sweet Pea the Clown and Markey, professional face painting, art activities, Western bouncy house and square dancing demonstrations by Bartow Dixie Grands.
