The Pumphouse Players are excited to kick off their 44th season with the Pump- house Junior show, “The Echanted Bookshop”, directed by Laurel Ann Lowe.

This story centers around Margie’s bookshop “A Likely Story”, which looks pretty normal during the day, but at night all the books come out to play! Beloved characters like Dorothy Gale, Robin Hood, Pollyanna, Sherlock Holmes, Long John Silver, and Tom Sawyer (and more!!!) spring from their books, thanks to an enchantment from the Book Fairy, but must remain hidden from human eyes. When a pair of bungling smugglers come looking for a stolen necklace hidden in one of the books, the characters face their biggest challenge yet. Do they risk revealing themselves to save Margie?

Pumphouse Junior is the free children’s theatre initiative of Pumphouse Players. Young performers and crew members ages 5 to 18 are welcomed to try out for the opportunity to learn about theater and play-building from professionals and volunteers. We encourage families to bring everyone to see our Pumphouse Junior shows! Todd Wallinger’s The Enchanted Bookshop has an extremely funny script that’s made even better by being brought to life by such an amazingly talented group of local kids. Young audience members will love Miss Margie’s kitty cat Bombalurina and all the silly action and fun costumes, while teens and adults will delight in recognizing well-loved literary characters. Pumphouse Junior is for everyone!

From the director: “Watching our ‘bumbling smugglers,’ Eddie and Fingers fall into a natural rhythm and comedic timing has been a very rewarding experience so far. The pair are played by Kelby Black and Aiden Haynes, real life friends, and they have been incredibly inventive in making strong choices for their characters. For the first time ever, we are working with an understudy for our lead role. Trinity Haynes will perform as Miss Margie, ‘the book lady,’ on Friday and Saturday, and Jessica Green will perform on Sunday. Both of our leads have been gracious and helpful to each other during this process, and they each bring a different, fresh energy to the role. It’s almost like watching two different plays! I am more than proud of them and the whole cast for how they have worked hard, together.”
